Cert in Communication and Media Studies

Designed to document progress in workplace communication, this certificate touches on public speaking, working through problems as a team, leading others, persuasion, and productive relationships among colleagues. Students sharpen their abilities and practice staying flexible, sincere, and self-assured when situations get tense. They also learn to build convincing messages from a firm theoretical base and to apply influence strategies that win buy-in and encourage cooperation. Students can finish the sequence in classrooms on campus or in hybrid courses delivered partly online. The published program map lays out one possible route through the required courses and is offered for reference only. Students are asked to meet with a counselor to build a personal education plan. Each course entry in the catalog lists its description, any prerequisites or advisories, and the general education or transfer areas it satisfies. Transfer plans deserve a counselor conversation too, because every university sets its own course requirements.
