Fullerton College's Journalism Certificate equips students with the background needed for reporting, writing, and production work at community newspapers and weekly publications. Required courses include reporting and writing, advanced reporting and writing, a survey of mass media, introductory magazine production, public relations and publicity, news media production, digital publishing, and either broadcast news or multimedia reporting. Restricted electives let students add publication design, photojournalism, Spanish-language reporting, introductory photography, or independent study. The certificate totals 30 units: 24 in required courses and 6 in restricted electives. Each course must be completed with a C or better. Listed outcomes include building a well-researched news story, following Associated Press style, and spotting libel or slander in print or broadcast pieces. Together the courses give students practice across print, digital, and broadcast formats.
