AA/AS in Music

The Music Department at Gavilan College serves students who want to study music as a major, as a transfer pathway, or as a broader part of their education. Coursework centers on traditional music education and spans keyboard, guitar, singing, electronic composition, and studio recording. The curriculum is designed for those who wish to develop performance skills, deepen their general knowledge of music, work in a recording studio, or prepare to teach. Instruction also satisfies general education requirements and prepares students to move on to university-level or vocational programs. The department hosts a jazz festival, a youth piano festival, and a college radio presence, which give students additional performance and media experience outside the classroom.
