AA/AS in Security Science and Technology

The Homeland Security and Emergency Management concentration within Genesee Community College's Criminal Justice program covers how governments, nonprofit groups and private organizations respond to emergencies. It takes an all-hazards view of the subject. Coursework examines threats from disasters caused by nature or technology, terrorism at home and abroad, and weapons capable of mass harm, and asks students to describe the risks, both human-caused and natural, that confront the country. Students also study the criminal justice system, including the police, courts and corrections, the contrast between the Due Process and Crime Control models, and international aspects of criminal justice. The program is directed through the college's human service careers faculty. It prepares students for work in public safety fields or transfer to a four-year school through SUNY pathways.
