BA/BS in Biology, General

The Bachelor of Science in Biology offers a liberal arts education with substantial exposure to quantitative and analytical thinking, along with preparation for related professions. It lays the groundwork for graduate study in the life sciences. Graduates can also build careers in teaching, microbiology, biotechnology, genetics, environmental and wildlife management, fisheries and marine science, among other areas. Students complete the Mason Core and the major requirements, with departmental policies listed in the Department of Biology. A news and views seminar or a science writing course meets the writing intensive requirement. There are limits on how many lower-level biology credits can count toward the degree if taken before the cell structure and function lecture and laboratory are completed. An honors option is offered. Applicants use the university's undergraduate application.
