The BS in Economics looks at society through incentives, choices and markets, and puts more weight on quantitative analysis than the BA version. Topics range from trade and health care to crime, the environment and economic growth.
The major has a required core in microeconomic and macroeconomic principles, with concentrations available for additional study. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 is needed in the required coursework.
Graduates are prepared for analyst positions in government, consulting, trade associations and the private sector, and for graduate programmes in economics or quantitative business fields.
Students complete the Mason Core general education requirements together with the major's courses, and the catalog lists each requirement, policy and contact for the department. Prospective students are encouraged to meet an academic advisor early so that course planning fits their goals and any outside commitments.
