The Publishing Practice certificate is meant for current Mason graduate students, creative writing MFA students, and regional industry professionals outside the university. Practicing editors and publishing experts teach the courses, and the sequence combines established foundation work with new offerings built for this career track.
Two hands-on practicums are required, one tied to the university's literary press and one tied to a poetry publication. Students then choose electives in editing, internships, document design, web authoring, proposal writing and professional writing culture. The certificate may be completed full time or part time. It is administered by the Department of English in Horizon Hall, and applicants follow the graduate admission rules of the university.
Full course lists, advising contacts and academic policies for the current year are published in the university catalog.
