AA/AS in Biology, General

Biology students build a base in the study of living things alongside chemistry and mathematics. Courses cover living systems, ecosystems and the methods used in the laboratory. The degree is intended for those planning to finish a bachelor's degree at a university. Possible paths include work as a biologist or lab technician, jobs in health care, research and environmental fields, and preparation for professional study in medicine or animal care. Associate degrees for transfer are designed around the California State University system. A student who earns one is promised a place somewhere in that system, though not at a specific campus or in a specific major. After moving on, the student can finish the remaining coursework for the bachelor's within roughly two further years. Major courses must be passed with a grade of C or better, and the state general education pattern is part of the plan.
