AA/AS in Communication and Media Studies

Students in this program practice speaking in front of audiences, listening carefully and collaborating in groups. Class activities such as speeches and team projects give regular practice in organizing ideas and delivering them clearly. The degree is built for those who plan to continue to a four-year university, and it supports later work across public relations, education, the legal field, media and commerce. Clear communication is a skill employers across fields look for. Associate degrees for transfer are designed around the California State University system. A student who earns one is promised a place somewhere in that system, though not at a specific campus or in a specific major. After moving on, the student can finish the remaining coursework for the bachelor's within roughly two further years. Major courses must be passed with a grade of C or better, and the state general education pattern is part of the plan.
