AA/AS in Communication and Media Studies

Communication Studies teaches students to build clear messages for different audiences and channels, from print and broadcast to social media and newer platforms. Coursework connects theory and research findings to everyday personal and professional relationships. Students can pursue an Associate in Arts or an transfer-oriented Associate in Arts. The transfer version carries guaranteed admission to a California State University campus, and the program offers internships to build career contacts. Before the first class, students meet with an academic counselor to build a Student Education Plan and to match the Communication Studies program to their career or transfer goals. The sequence of required classes, along with any extra transfer conditions, is laid out in the college catalog, so applicants should read it alongside the program page. Campus clubs, student government and tutoring services give newcomers further ways to connect with peers and faculty while they work toward the credential.
