BA/BS in Biology, General

Biology at Marian blends natural science with the humanities and may be completed as either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science. The curriculum starts with a Principles of Biology sequence and then explores the discipline at the molecular, organismal and ecosystem scales. The arts degree fits students interested in careers that stress teamwork, public engagement and communication, for example teaching high school science, writing about science or advocating for patients. The science degree demands more coursework in science and mathematics and aims at laboratory and research jobs, environmental work, genetic counseling, and medical, dental or optometry school. During the last two years, students complete upper-level biology courses, and internship or research credit may count toward the major. Each degree has its own sample plan covering the four years.
