BA/BS in Communication and Media Studies

Marian's communication major is a Bachelor of Arts for students who want to understand how messages inform and persuade audiences, from broadcast news to social media. Study begins with general education requirements and a communication core before students narrow their focus. Within the major, students examine media and society, theories of communication, and information and media literacy. They then choose a specialization, one example being creative media and journalism, which draws on production, film and storytelling courses. Student-run media outlets give practical experience, and the final stretch includes an internship and a capstone that looks at careers in media and communication. The major is offered on the Indianapolis campus and is backed by the communication faculty. A communication minor is also available for those majoring elsewhere.
