Overview

This graduate degree serves licensed educators who are ready to take on school leadership. Teachers and counselors use it to prepare for roles leading a school building as a principal or vice principal. It follows a hybrid cohort model, which means students move through the sequence together with the same peers. Learning is organized into four phases. The first phase focuses on adaptive leadership, systems thinking and building strong school cultures. The next phases cover guiding instruction and curriculum, supporting teachers, and making strategic decisions about school systems. In the second year, students carry out a leadership internship, then complete a capstone project or thesis that readies them for Building Level Administrator licensure. Applicants need a bachelor's degree from an accredited school with a minimum GPA, a current teaching or counseling license, an Indiana background check and official transcripts.
