AA/AS in Manufacturing Engineering

The Advanced Manufacturing Technology degree prepares students to work in today's factories or to continue toward a bachelor's degree in mechatronics, advanced manufacturing or mechanical engineering study. Manufacturers rely on skilled people who can run, diagnose and maintain sophisticated machinery with many connected systems. Students practice on manual lathes and milling machines, then move to computer-controlled machines and programmable controllers. Typical entry-level duties involve setting up and operating turret lathes, mills and power presses, and more advanced work can include CNC machines, controllers and robotic assembly lines. Learning outcomes include interpreting blueprints, measuring with micrometers and calipers, performing shop math, working safely, repairing circuit boards and pursuing NIMS credentials. Employers value graduates who work well in team-oriented production and quality settings. Applicants need a high school diploma or equivalent and a year of algebra or practical mathematics.
