The Chemistry program at Muskingum University treats chemistry as a central science connected to several neighbouring sciences and medicine. Students build critical thinking, laboratory skills and written and oral communication as they progress through the courses.
The curriculum covers the five main areas of the discipline: physical, analytical, inorganic and organic chemistry plus biochemistry. Students operate modern instruments and research equipment, and each completes an independent laboratory project during a senior capstone, in individual collaboration with a faculty member.
The program holds American Chemical Society certification. Students have earned summer fellowships and internships, including National Science Foundation research experiences. Graduates have entered medical, dental, veterinary, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical therapy and graduate programs, or found jobs in chemical and technology industries. Faculty encourage students to develop confidence in the laboratory and in presenting scientific results.
