Program details

Overview

Engineering Design is an associate of applied science program that teaches computer-aided design for mechanical parts and devices. Students become comfortable with AutoCAD and SolidWorks so they can qualify as CAD designers or as aides to mechanical engineers. Major courses include technical drafting, sketching, schematic and diagram drafting, product development, industrial drawing and design, preparation for a design certification exam and CNC machining. The general education block contains two composition courses, precalculus and college physics, while related courses add electricity and fluid power. Students need a C or better in every course and a 2.25 average across major courses and minors. The engineering technology unit oversees the degree, and the catalog directs readers to it for further information. Projects build a portfolio of design work.
