Overview
The communication program at Odessa College introduces students to the study of how people create, share and interpret messages. Coursework leans heavily on media literacy, analysis of rhetoric and public speaking, and it is designed to serve both transfer students and those heading straight into work. Learners practise skills such as interpersonal communication, building rapport, handling conflict, working in teams, and researching communication theory. The department also looks at how audiences behave and how messages are shaped for different settings. The degree path prepares students to move on to a four-year institution in many disciplines, while also giving them the abilities needed to speak well in front of groups and to work as media specialists. Employers frequently look for these competencies in both new and experienced staff.
