AA/AS in Communication and Media Studies

The Media Arts program prepares students for careers in broadcasting, covering television, radio, production, performance, editing, and writing. Coursework is paired with studio practice, so learners spend time both in front of microphones and cameras and behind the scenes. Students use a working television studio and a campus radio studio named for Dale Dorman. They practice vocal performance for broadcast, production methods for both media, and nonlinear editing on computers. The associate degree also serves as a route to four-year schools offering broadcast journalism, radio and television, or mass communication majors. Learning outcomes include media vocabulary, analysis of how media shapes culture, critical thinking, and original content creation across digital platforms.
