AA/AS in Chemistry

The associate's degree in chemistry at Odessa College gives students a scientific foundation before they move on to a university. It suits those who intend to study chemistry or another STEM discipline, or who intend to follow a pre-medical, pre-pharmacy or pre-health track. Students take introductory, general and organic chemistry with laboratory components, and they build skills in experimentation, data analysis and quantitative reasoning. Smaller classes and lower costs than a university are part of the appeal. Most graduates transfer to complete a bachelor's degree. The associate degree can also support entry-level jobs such as laboratory technician, quality control technician or environmental testing assistant. Later careers include pharmaceuticals, medical research, energy, forensic science and education. Students typically take the sequence in order, starting with the introductory course and finishing with organic chemistry.
