AA/AS in Accounting and Related Services

This associate in science degree gives students a full accounting major together with general education. The major covers financial and managerial accounting, spreadsheet use for accounting and finance, individual or business taxation, cost accounting, intermediate accounting, auditing and introductory business. Major coursework totals thirty-five units. Students add up to twenty-one units of general education, or the Cal-GETC pattern in its place, plus transferable electives to reach sixty units. Suggested electives include nonprofit recordkeeping and applied management. Learning outcomes ask graduates to demonstrate the activities of the accounting function in industry, use comprehensive accounting skills and technology, act ethically, and show technical knowledge of accounting topics. The catalog encourages students to meet with a college counselor to plan the order of courses, check prerequisites and confirm that the pathway fits their career or transfer goals.
