AA/AS in Dance

The Dance Associate in Arts gives students a grounding in how dance is understood, performed and appreciated. Study spans foundational technique, modern and commercial styles, choreography, performing, and dance traditions from around the world. Students show their proficiency through technical execution, performance, research papers, essays and choreographic work. They also develop critical thinking and an awareness of movement when analyzing dance performances. The degree prepares students for university dance programs or similar advanced study, or for dance-related careers. In the college catalog this program is listed as eligible for financial aid. Orange Coast College publishes the requirements in its 2026-2027 academic catalog, which sets out the required courses, the intended learning outcomes and a suggested sequence of study. A counselor can help each student map out the semesters.
