BA/BS in Sociology

The sociology major at Oregon State University provides a broad understanding of human societies, social behavior and the institutions that result from group interaction. Students can study in Corvallis or through Ecampus. The required core introduces sociology and covers research methods and quantitative data analysis, with minimum grades of C minus in several of those courses. Students then select twenty-eight elective credits and may follow an option centered on crime and law, natural resources, or social services and advocacy. Choosing electives around a theme adds focus to the education. Outcomes include interpreting existing sociological knowledge and constructing explanations for social phenomena. A bachelor's degree here requires 180 credits and can be a BA, BS or honors version, with a typical plan spanning four years.
