MA/MS in Applied Horticulture and Horticultural Business Services

Graduate study in horticulture leads to the MS or the PhD, and both degrees are built around an original research project written up as a thesis. The pathway suits students aiming for research careers or looking for hands-on training in research methods. Departmental strengths include plant breeding, genetics and biotechnology, with active breeding work in berries, hazelnuts and vegetables. Another area covers sustainable crop production, including viticulture and enology, berries, orchard crops, vegetables, and nursery and greenhouse systems. A third strength lies in community and landscape horticulture, which looks at urban landscapes such as golf courses, sports fields, gardens and parks. Options in entomology and in plant breeding and genetics are available, and the program is based in Corvallis.
