AA/AS in Music

This associate of arts concentration prepares students to study music education or performance at a four-year school, and typically takes four semesters. The first term centers on theory of music, ear training, introductory piano, and private lessons on the student's main instrument. Students also join ensembles including the concert band, a jazz group, and a community chorus, which gives them regular performance practice. Classes are small, giving each musician steady attention from faculty. The program is part of the creative arts and media department and is structured so that coursework transfers toward a bachelor's degree in music. Prospective students apply online, provide earlier transcripts so staff can place them in courses, and then meet with an advisor to plan a schedule and talk through ways to pay.
