Sociology at Pacific Lutheran University is a major and minor in the College of Liberal Studies that examines how people live, work, and connect as local and global citizens. Topics include family life, ethnic diversity, race relations, poverty, inequality, and social justice.
The program is research-oriented and builds skills step by step, culminating in a senior project in which students design and carry out original research. Many complete internships with schools, human service agencies, or advocacy groups.
Graduates move into human services, teaching, legal work, government, nonprofit management, and commerce, or continue to graduate school. Courses on social stratification, gender, and race supply tools for analyzing systems of inequality. Prospective students can arrange a campus visit through the admission office and speak with faculty about how the major fits their goals.
