Overview

This Sociology transfer degree centers on how societies, their institutions and the relationships among people can be studied scientifically. A key idea in the field is that social factors matter, so a person's life is shaped not only by individual psychology but also by position in the social world. Students look at how structures such as workplaces, governments, schools, economies and faith communities affect individuals, and how individuals in turn influence those structures. They also explore how factors like socioeconomic status, ethnicity, age, gender and sexuality relate to attitudes and behavior. The degree prepares students for a sociology major at a California State University campus. It requires sixty transferable units, a general education pattern, at least eighteen units in the major, a 2.0 grade point average and a C or better in major courses.
