AA/AS in Communication and Media Studies

This transfer degree, labeled version 2.0, lets students finish lower-division and general education requirements for a CSU in majors that include art, communication, English, journalism, theatre arts and broadcasting. The subject matter explores how people influence, persuade and express themselves, and how messages in advertising, television and political speech shape society. Topics range from one-on-one conversation to group dynamics and communication inside organizations. Finishing the degree takes sixty CSU-transferable semester units, a recognized general education pattern, and an area of study of at least eighteen units, with a grade point average of 2.0 or better. Because the degree is built around the CSU system, it is meant to open a path to junior standing in a similar major. Counselors can help students match the courses to the campus they plan to attend.
