AA/AS in Communication and Media Studies

The Communication Studies Associate in Arts for Transfer, revised effective Spring 2024, covers lower-division preparation for a communication studies or similar major. Completing it satisfies lower-division requirements for many California State University campuses under the state transfer reform law. The catalog lays the coursework out as a semester-by-semester pathway, listing required and general education classes for each term. Some classes are marked as suitable for winter or summer intersession, and some are available online. Students are encouraged to work with an academic counselor to adapt the sequence to their own circumstances. Each pathway opens with a gateway class meant to help newcomers judge whether the field suits them. Associate degrees outside the transfer category also ask students to meet the college's global citizenship requirement, which can often be done through a general education choice.
