BA/BS in Communication and Media Studies

This Bachelor of Arts is run by the Meadows arts school at SMU through its corporate communication and public affairs division. It draws students who want to become effective storytellers and take on leadership roles in media and advocacy, and in driving change inside organizations. The degree teaches a versatile set of skills for managing today's communication environment, including how to earn trust for a brand, influence public opinion and deliver clear messages to many kinds of audiences. Students select one of four tracks: leadership for nonprofits and the arts, communication inside organizations, political communication with public affairs, or social innovation with creative and arts entrepreneurship. The last of these suits those interested in starting commercial, nonprofit or blended ventures. The division arranges internships, consulting assignments and hands-on research projects with business, charitable and political groups. These placements take place in Dallas, Washington, London and elsewhere. Students may also choose a minor in the field.
