MA/MS in History

The Master of History studies the past in its complexity to better understand the present. Historians analyze change over time and build interpretations from archival and primary sources, appreciating the views of past actors and the ethical questions raised by their decisions. Faculty teach across eras and regions, including Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Students work in a regional or national field and a global or thematic field, shaping subfields of emphasis with their advisors for a comprehensive portfolio examination. The degree can follow a thesis or non-thesis plan and includes a language requirement. A Graduate Record Examination score is no longer needed to apply. The program is part of the University of Colorado Boulder catalog. Interested students should review the current catalog entry and contact the responsible department about advising, application steps and upcoming requirements before planning their studies.
