The department offers the Doctor of Philosophy, the Master of Science with thesis and non-thesis options, and the Master of Engineering. The master's degree in science with a thesis is the option described most fully on the catalog page.
That thesis option requires 30 semester hours. The credits include twelve hours of foundational chemical engineering courses, six credits of chemical engineering science that must include reaction engineering, bioengineering or kinetics, and up to six hours of supervised research. Students for whom the applied track is chosen may replace one basis course with an elective.
Completion is possible in sixteen months, and the usual length runs from sixteen to twenty-four months. Candidates write a final thesis and defend it orally before their supervisory committee. General requirements for all of the degrees are in the graduate degrees section of the catalog.
