MA/MS in Computer Science

The Master of Science in Computer Science is a graduate degree from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Admitted students must already have covered, or be able to test out of or complete at the outset, introductory computer science and data structures and algorithms courses. The course option calls for thirty units of graduate credit, with a majority taken in advanced departmental courses. A breadth requirement asks students to complete courses in theory, software systems, and machine or applications areas. The remaining units are electives at upper levels. Students can also pursue a one-semester project, a two-semester project, or a thesis, each with its own pass/no pass and grading rules. All courses counted toward the degree need a grade of C or better, and the School of Engineering sets a minimum grade-point average for continuing students.
