Overview

Economics at West Los Angeles College, taught within the social sciences. Economics studies how individuals, businesses and governments choose among limited resources. Courses blend theory with data work and practical application to address problems such as slow growth, uneven wealth, joblessness, rising prices and sustainability. Introductory courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics transfer to University of California and California State University campuses. Economics graduates take jobs as analysts, researchers and planners across companies, banks, public agencies, schools and global bodies. Students who finish the program and meet the general education and grade point conditions can move on toward a bachelor's degree. Counselors and the Transfer Center help each student plan courses around the target university. The department page links to requirements, a program mapper and the academic catalog, and lists faculty contacts for questions. New students are encouraged to speak with an advisor before enrolling so that courses line up with their career or transfer plans.
