This is a non-degree route for people who hold a bachelor's degree and need a first license for teaching math at the middle or high school level. It also serves teachers working under an emergency license who want to become fully licensed.
Staff review each candidate's earlier work experience and coursework to decide what counts toward state requirements and which courses remain, then design a personal plan of study. Candidates complete the courses, pass the Massachusetts educator licensure exams and complete a practicum.
Classes are offered during the day, afternoon and evening, with some hybrid sections, and licensure courses run in fall, spring and summer. Students who have not taken education courses at the university take a minimum number of credits there before the practicum.
Prospective students can request information, attend an information session or apply through the program page, and licensure advising is available from the department.
