PGCert in Romance Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics

This graduate certificate prepares students for work in translation, interpretation and other applied uses of Spanish. It aims to produce graduates who are linguistically capable and culturally aware in professional contexts. Applicants need a 3.000 average and either a Spanish bachelor's degree or comparable advanced proficiency judged by the coordinator. Every applicant, whether native, heritage or non-native, sits an entrance test covering grammar and basic translation and interpreting. An advanced grammar and composition course must also be passed, though it does not count toward the certificate. The curriculum has four courses: principles of translation and interpreting, an advanced follow-up, a practicum, and a choice of health professions or business Spanish. Written and oral comprehensive examinations are given before the certificate is awarded.
