AA/AS in Music

The music program at Harper prepares students for transfer through a degree of the Associate in Fine Arts type that takes two years. Coursework emphasizes music theory, performance and composition, with attention to music education and musicology for those heading toward a four-year program. A second fine arts option, also two years long, centers on music production, combining the creative and technical sides of recording and audio work. Students can explore audio engineering alongside traditional training. Instruction comes from faculty who are active performers, and students may join instrumental and choral ensembles to perform beside professional musicians. The department aims to support varied backgrounds and to open both academic and creative career routes. Those curious about the department can browse a photo gallery of music classes. Transfer plans are available as samples so students can map their courses toward the school they hope to attend next.
