Huntington University is an independent post-secondary institution in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, founded in 1960 as one of the first post-secondary institutions established in Northern Ontario.
Named for the Methodist minister Silas Huntington, it operated for six decades as a federated university within the Laurentian University system before that federation agreement was terminated in 2021 during Laurentian's insolvency proceedings; under the resulting settlement, Huntington's gerontology program and its students moved to Laurentian's Faculty of Arts, and Huntington ceased delivering courses for credit toward a Laurentian degree. Since then the university has continued as an independent institution centred on its hilltop campus, which overlooks much of Sudbury's campus community, home to the J.W.
Tate Library, the Lougheed Teaching and Learning Centre, and co-ed residence housing more than 130 students. Rather than a conventional undergraduate degree program, Huntington's current activity is organized around a cluster of specialized institutes: the Canadian Finnish Institute, the Peruvian Canadian Institute, and the Canadian Institute for Human Rights and Global Health, alongside continuing scholarship and bursary support for students in the region.
The university is governed by a Board of Regents and led by a President and Vice-Chancellor.
