Registered Nurse - Prescribing Health, Food & Medical 2 semesters On-campus English
This new graduate certificate RN Prescribing program allows registered nurses (RNs) to expand their role to include the prescribing of medications. The Ontario government recently announced that, beginning in January 2024, they will allow registered nurses to prescribe medications, after meeting specific requirements, for certain conditions such as contraception, immunizations, smoking cessation, and topical wound care in a variety of settings including long-term care residences and retirement homes. In consultation with stakeholders and using evidence from other jurisdictions to align with legislation, the Registered Nurse – Prescribing program was developed to meet the needs of Ontarians in a safe, efficient way. Cambrian College is part of a consortium of seven Ontario colleges delivering this program across Southeastern and Northwestern Ontario. Indigenous and bilingual ways of knowing and learning were considered in the development of the program to ensure that the needs of all communities served can be met. The online program delivery model ensures access for nurses across all of Ontario and learners are encouraged to register for their program with the college that is in closest proximity to their preferred clinical placement location.

Funnel your passion for helping others into a nursing career Prepare for a career as a registered practical nurse (RPN) with a combination of hands-on training and a strong foundation in nursing theory. Cambrian’s program is approved by the College of Nurses of Ontario (cno.org). Graduates from this program are eligible to apply for registration as a Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario. Our program features smaller class sizes and practical learning in Cambrian’s high-tech nursing labs. You’ll advance your skills and gain real-world experience by working alongside health care professionals, with over 700 clinical hours in diverse placements in the community. Upon graduation, you can apply to write the CNO registration exam and are eligible to apply to become a registered practical nurse in Ontario.

When you accept a seat in the program, you also accept to go to any of the program’s affiliated clinical sites and you should expect that you may have to relocate. Your placement location may be different from your preference and should expect that you may have to relocate for your preceptorship placement. Clinical placements can take place on weekdays or weekends and may be an 8 or 12 hour day and/or afternoon shifts.

Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training Fire, Justice & Security 3 semesters On-campus English
Is a career protecting your community and the environment in your future? Get ready for an exciting fire service career with our intensive one-year program in partnership with fire departments and the community. The program is packed with plenty of practical experience and testing to ensure you’re job ready. Gain hands-on training in our on-campus firefighter lab and in simulated and controlled live fire training scenarios with the City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services and Markstay-Warren Fire Department. Get in shape with full access to our on-campus Athletics Centre and weight room to ensure you’re ready to pass industry fitness tests. The program runs from August 18 to May 1, allowing you to apply to FireRanger positions with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) right away (to be eligible you must complete in your first semester the SP100 course, which is an additional cost). For semester start dates for the 2025-2026 academic year, and beyond, please contact the Program Coordinator. The curriculum is based on the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards identified as NFPA 1001 and NFPA 1072. Graduates can write the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) Provincial Firefighter test and then apply for standing as Firefighter Level One and Level Two from the Pro Board.

Cambrian’s comprehensive program helps you enhance a wide range of core and technical skills by combining theory with hands-on training in labs and trade shops. Through practical class projects like framing and roofing a shed, or repairing an engine in a snowmobile, you’ll learn the basics of work safety, measuring instruments, and hand and power tools. A partnership with the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) allows you to take industry certification courses at a reduced rate during the program.

As a medical radiation technologist (MRT) student, areas of study will include anatomy and physiology, procedures and protocols, patient care, pathology, and imaging concepts. Through the program, you’ll also demonstrate proficiency in general radiographic procedures, and fluoroscopy and CT scanning in radiographic and patient simulation labs. Simulation and scenario labs are used to demonstrate and perform venipuncture insertion, intravenous therapy and emergency procedures. This profession requires you to be in good physical health with the ability to assist patients with transfer, move portable imaging equipment, and have strong visual and hearing acuity. During this intense program, you’ll gain essential competency skills and knowledge, including a full-year placement at a hospital. During clinical placement there is an emphasis on the demonstration of team member, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Unlock your world by getting comfortable with the English language With this flexible learning program, you will improve your English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills to reach a level required for academic studies. You will be prepared for academic success and become immersed in Canadian culture through a blend of classroom instruction and off-campus experiences. The program duration varies from four to 12 months, depending on your language proficiency. Your English skills are assessed at the intake through results from recognized language proficiency tests, and you will be placed at a one of three levels appropriate for your language proficiency: Foundations (3 semesters) – This level is designed for low-beginner students and is offered based on sufficient enrolment. Level A (2 semesters) – This level is intended for high-beginner to low-intermediate students. Level B (1 semester) – This level is intended for high-intermediate students. Once completed, you may earn general education credits and become eligible to apply for diploma or graduate certificate programs at Cambrian College, provided you meet all other admission requirements. You will progress through the program by successfully completing each level, which consists of 23 in-person hours of instruction per week over 14 weeks. To progress, you must achieve a minimum average of 70% in each level.
