The Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging Technology Program (NMMIT) is a joint educational program offered through the University of Toronto and The Michener Institute of Education at UHN. NMMIT allows students to experience all aspects of the profession, including preparing radiopharmaceuticals and handling radioactivity, imaging using gamma cameras, Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT)/ Computed tomography (CT), Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD) scanners, exploration of emerging technologies in Positron Emission Computed Tomography (PECT)/ Computed tomography (CT), and theranostics. Theory is put into practice by examining increasingly complex case studies and applying knowledge in both simulated and clinical environments. Graduates are eligible to write the national certification examination conducted by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT). Certification allows them to apply for registration as a nuclear medicine technologist with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO). The program equips imaging professionals with the foundational MRI knowledge, clinical skills, patient care expertise, and professional competence required for safe and effective entry‑level MRI practice. Graduates develop the ability to perform MRI procedures competently while delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care. Designed for working healthcare professionals, the program is delivered primarily through an asynchronous, interactive online format, allowing learners to balance their studies with professional responsibilities. Students are supported by faculty through regular synchronous check‑ins, which focus on academic guidance, progress monitoring, and learner support throughout the program.

Chiropody Health, Food & Medical 7 semesters On-campus English
Michener offers Canada’s only English-taught Chiropody program. The program integrates didactic courses, hands-on practical labs, simulated clinical training and clinical practice right from the start of the program. Students study the anatomy of the lower extremity, dissection, clinical pharmacology, pathophysiology and biomechanics of the lower limb and gait cycle. Under the supervision of licensed chiropodists in Michener’s on-site Chiropody clinic, students have the opportunity to treat patients. This hands-on experience allows them to practice and build upon their patient-care skills and procedural techniques, including podiatric soft tissue surgery, injections, biomechanics, wound care and radiology. In addition, students complete specialized external clinical placements where they gain additional real-world practice. Graduates from this program are eligible to write the College of Chiropodists of Ontario provincial registration exam. Success in the exam is a requirement to practice as a licensed chiropodist in Ontario.

Michener offers one of the only Diagnostic Cytology programs in Canada. Graduates of the program are equipped for diverse roles within the field of laboratory diagnostics and earn dual licensure in both cytology and histology: Cytology develops the skills to identify and diagnose precancerous cellular changes, various types of cancer, and clinically significant infections Histology provides knowledge and practical skills in grossing, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy and staining techniques Graduates are eligible to write the national certification examination conducted by the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR). Students wishing to practise in Ontario must also register with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO). After successfully completing the certification exam, graduates are licensed to work across various areas of anatomical pathology, including surgical pathology, histopathology and cytopathology. With additional training, graduates also possess the fundamental knowledge and transferable skills to work in specialized fields such as electron microscopy, flow cytometry and molecular diagnostics. The Diagnostic Cytology program is accredited by Accreditation Canada. Michener’s Genetics Technology program is one of only two (2) programs offered in Canada. The Genetics Technology program educates students in both cytogenetic and molecular genetic techniques. Cytogenetics encompasses the microscopic analysis of human chromosomes; molecular genetics involves the analysis of DNA and RNA. Students will gain the knowledge and skills to perform analyses to diagnose and treat patients with genetic diseases, monitor and prevent disease and use laboratory techniques and instrumentation to explore genetics of the human cell. Graduates are eligible to write the national certification examination conducted by the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR). The College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) accepts graduates from the Genetics Technology Program at Michener as Medical Laboratory Technologists with competencies in both cytogenetics and molecular genetics.

In the simulated clinical lab setting, students work both independently and in teams to develop their professional communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills. In their final year, students participate in a 20-week clinical placement under the supervision of medical laboratory technologists. This placement provides the opportunity to integrate knowledge and skills into practice, gain hands-on experience in work environments and network with potential employers.
