Canterbury Christ Church University is a public higher education institution in Kent, South East England, with its main campus on North Holmes Road in Canterbury and further campuses in Medway and Tunbridge Wells.
It opened in 1962 as a teacher training college with 75 students and nine staff, gained university college status in 1995, and was granted full university title in 2005, along with the right to award its own research degrees in 2009. The Archbishop of Canterbury serves as Chancellor, and the university traces its roots to the Church of England.
Today CCCU teaches across a wide range of subjects including education, health and social care professions such as nursing, occupational therapy and psychology, creative and media arts, and STEM subjects, and it co-runs the Kent and Medway Medical School, the region's first, launched in 2020. The university offers foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes, along with apprenticeships and short courses, to students across its Kent and Medway campuses.
