Program details

Overview

The Associate Degree in Visual Arts at Barbados Community College runs for two years and suits students taking their first serious steps in art and design, built around both studio practice and digital or electronic media. Core study grounds students in drawing, design, painting and sculpture, while coursework also lets them range freely across printmaking, photography, video and digital media as their interests develop. The programme is staged deliberately: much of the first year centres on solving problems set by instructors, while later work shifts toward letting students define the problems themselves, a more open-ended and demanding way of working. That shift gives students sustained time to develop a body of work in an area of their choosing, which culminates in a final exhibition at the end of the programme.
