Overview
Economics studies how wealth is produced, used and transferred, and how that process touches financial decisions and the distribution of resources between individuals and organisations. At its core it asks how people respond to scarcity and incentives, so while money is part of the picture, the discipline is really about decision-making under constraint.
Galen splits the field into microeconomics, which looks at choices made by individuals and households, and macroeconomics, which studies the economy as a single system, from a family's debt load up to a nation's. Beyond the theory, the program is built to sharpen analytical and critical-thinking skills that carry into policy debate, historical analysis and reading current events.
A bachelor's graduate is positioned for roles across business, banking and government finance, and also journalism, education, nonprofit work, urban planning and policy-analysis positions. The university lists management consultant, policy officer and credit analyst among the career paths graduates pursue.
