Overview
Galen University's Elementary Education degree trains students toward full licensure as elementary school teachers, built around 21st-century technological, pedagogical and content knowledge. The university counts more than 500 teachers certified through the program so far, and every education degree at Galen carries formal recognition from Belize's teacher-licensing body, the Board of Teacher Education (BBTE).
The 139-credit-hour program is aligned with associate-degree tracks in Elementary Education offered at Belizean tertiary institutions, so students who transfer in with that associate degree have their coursework carried over and can complete the bachelor's in just five semesters, while students entering straight from high school take the full four-year route. Classes run online in the evening, between 6:00 and 9:00 pm, so working students can keep a job while studying.
The curriculum is built to close gaps in educational access, with emphasis on subject-matter specialisation, alternative assessment, curricular design and teaching leadership across disciplines.
