Overview

This Bachelor of Science in Nursing prepares students to practice across a range of health care settings, combining biological and social science, humanities, and nursing coursework with concept-based learning aimed at developing clinical reasoning and nursing judgment. The program is delivered at Acadia University through the Cape Breton University nursing curriculum, a partnership arrangement in place as of 2023. Three entry pathways are offered: a Direct Entry stream for high school graduates or mature students, completed over three years across eight semesters; an Advanced Standing stream for those with prior university experience, completed over two years across six semesters; and an LPN-to-BScN pathway, typically two years, for licensed practical nurses with 1,800 hours of recent practice experience. Students gain clinical placements in hospitals, community settings, and long-term care through Nova Scotia Health as well as private community partners. The application deadline for the September intake is February 28 each year. The program suits students aiming to become registered nurses, as well as those working toward advanced practice roles such as nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, nurse researcher, or nurse educator.
