Overview
This Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History builds a foundation for informed citizenship through the study of past events, institutions, and ideas, with courses spanning from ancient Greece and Rome through Canadian history. Specialized topics include Anishinaabe history, women's and gender history, and the history of European witch-hunts. Fourth-year students complete an Honours Research Thesis involving extensive primary and secondary research. Students have access to the archives of the Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre for historical research, and the department hosts the Hayes-Jenkinson Memorial Lecture Series, which brings in prominent guest speakers. The History Society is one of the university's active student-run clubs, offering additional engagement outside the classroom. The program combines broad chronological and thematic coverage with an independent research component, preparing graduates for further graduate study, archival and museum work, teaching, and other research-oriented careers.
