Overview

This Bachelor of Arts in Law and Justice is offered at Algoma University's Sault Ste. Marie, Brampton, and Timmins campuses and approaches law from historical, social, and philosophical perspectives, drawing on diverse legal traditions rather than a single doctrinal framework. Students examine civil, criminal, family, corporate, constitutional, and contract law alongside conventional, traditional, and alternative approaches to justice and dispute resolution, including comparative and theoretical perspectives. Some faculty members bring experience as practicing lawyers, judges, or magistrates to their teaching. Students can also pursue a combined major with political science. The program suits students interested in the study of law and justice systems from multiple angles, whether or not they intend to pursue formal legal training. Graduates often go on to law school or graduate study, and pursue careers such as paralegal, law enforcement officer, criminal investigator, legal secretary, policy analyst, or researcher, drawing on the critical thinking, writing, and research skills the program develops.
