At Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada, Diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion is offered as a diploma in Public Health programme. The programme runs for 4 semesters, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 8,082 per semester (CAD 1,389 per semester for local students).
This two-year diploma prepares students to work as fitness and health consultants, planning, promoting and delivering activity and education programs that support the health and wellbeing of individuals and groups across a range of settings. Coursework builds both the practical fitness knowledge and the professional skills needed to meet a broad and changing market for fitness, wellness and health promotion services.
Field placements give students direct industry experience, applying classroom learning in real workplace settings while building contacts with potential employers ahead of graduation. The program also prepares students to sit recognised group fitness and personal training certification exams. Career paths include fitness and health clubs, community and non-profit organisations, public recreation centres, corporate fitness facilities, private studios, and allied health clinics, as well as options for self-employment offering personal training or coaching services.
