Offered by Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada, PGCert in Environmental Management and Assessment is a postgraduate certificate in Energy Engineering programme. The programme runs for 1 year, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 9,287 per semester (CAD 2,819 per semester for local students).
This one-year graduate certificate gives students a broad grounding in environmental science through hands-on and personalised learning activities, spanning environmental site assessment, regulatory compliance, climate change assessment, waste and water quality management, and air, soil and quality assessment, alongside sampling and analytical technique and environmental policy analysis and planning.
Across two terms, students build transferable skills in hydrology, field techniques, sample processing, biodiversity and conservation, environmental modelling and auditing, geographic information systems, and communicating scientific findings for public policy audiences, supported by field experience that connects classroom learning to real environmental conditions. This skill set is intended to let graduates assess human impacts on the environment, help develop and enforce regulations, and carry out site assessments and research. Career paths span government, for-profit and not-for-profit organisations, and consulting firms, in areas including environmental compliance, conservation, sustainable development and corporate environmental responsibility.
