Master of Nursing: Nurse Practitioner

The Master of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner at Athabasca University prepares registered nurses to diagnose and treat a wide range of common illnesses and injuries for clients across the lifespan. The 33-credit program is delivered through online grouped-study courses with defined start and end dates, of which at least 18 credits must be completed through Athabasca University, and students may take up to five years to finish. Alongside the online coursework, students complete 800 clinical practicum hours across a variety of settings — all clinical practice must be completed in Canada — plus an in-person physical assessment laboratory session (NURS 518). Applicants must hold current registered nurse licensure in the province where they complete their clinical practice. Fees are charged per course; the 2026–27 estimated cost for a Canadian resident completing all courses through AU is $21,329, excluding the program application and admission fees.
