Overview
The Community Health Representative program is a part-time, modular certificate delivered in classroom format at the Yellowknife North Slave Campus, totalling 540 hours of instruction. It builds sound basic knowledge in community health education, health promotion, injury prevention, and community development, preparing graduates to assess community health needs and work alongside community members to improve health and well-being. Graduates earn an Aurora College Certificate of Achievement. The program is restricted to individuals already working in the Community Health Representative role in the Northwest Territories, combining coursework with their existing on-the-job practice. Admission follows either an academic pathway, requiring completion of English 10-2 or its Aurora College Occupations and College Access Program (OCAP) equivalent, or a mature student/experiential pathway for applicants 20 or older with relevant work or life experience. Applicants with prior related coursework may receive transfer credit through Prior Learning Assessment.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have successfully completed English 10-2, or have completed Aurora College's Occupations and College Access Program (OCAP) with a pass in Aurora College English 140. Alternatively, applicants 20 years of age or older who have been out of school for at least one year may be considered through the mature student/experiential pathway, based on relevant work or life experience and, where required, an interview or placement testing. Applicants with related prior coursework may apply for transfer credit through Prior Learning Assessment. The program is open only to individuals currently working in the Community Health Representative role in the Northwest Territories.
